Change your Mac FOREVER with new Aqua Theme

By Joey Cooper

Have you heard a lot about Apple's new Aqua interface for MacOS X? Well, some seem to hate it, others love it; how about you try it? That's right, theme developer Ben Mackin has created a MacOS "theme" based upon screen shots from Apple's site of Aqua. Simply download it, pop it into your System folder, and you have that cool look from OS X, all over your computer!

I downloaded it and gave it a try. Surprisingly, it's actually VERY cool. The menus are nice, the translucent-colored graphics are pleasing to the eye, and I could see using this from day to day. In fact, I have the Aqua theme on right now writing this article!

Before you ditch Apple's MacOS default Platinum theme, though, you must know the Aqua theme Ben created isn't "perfect." First of all, I think the folders icons are screwed up, because they don't look "nice." Secondly, in Internet Explorer (4.5 and some other versions) the "tabs" on the side of the screen are blacked-out. I never use these tabs, but it's kinda an eye sore!

What is wrong with it

Is that the way those folders are supposed to look?

Black spots over the tabs in Internet Explorer.

Hopefully a new version of this theme will come out soon with the bugs fixed, although the current version still works most of the time (and it looks nice too!). Of course, using the Appearance Control Panel and the Aqua theme don't give you the whole MacOS X feel yet -- you don't get the Dock, or the neat shadows, or PDF and QuickTime drawing -- basically, we're not there yet. But I'm pretty sure from what I've seen of this theme, MacOS X will be nice!
