Rounded corners back in X!!!

Mac OS 8.6

Mac OS 9

Mac OS X

The Control Strip -- covers OS 8.6's bottom-left corner

by David Norton

[Update] Sorry for the confusion this may have caused, but it looks as if the rounded corners didn't go away in OS 9, but rather went away with the iBook, and maybe some other newer Macs. Thanks to the readers that caught this, and we thank you for watching. However, one wonders if Apple is including it again in Mac OS X, even for iBooks... [/Update]

In case you didn't notice, Apple has put the rounded corners back into the Mac OS. If you look at the screenshot on Apple.com, you can see the rounded corners at the top left and right corners (the reason they aren't on the bottom is that the Dock gets in the way. The same thing happens with the Control Strip).

The beloved rounded corners were removed in Mac OS 9, for some reason. The rounded corners are a long-loved feature of the Mac OS, as they bring a personalization that other OS's don't. Mac users will rejoice at the come-back of this amazingly-cool feature in Mac OS X.

OK, so maybe it isn't that great a feature, but it certainly is cool that it looks like Apple is bringing back the rounded corners... however, we mustn't get our hopes up, because Mac OS X is still a beta - they could remove the corners, cause a general uproar among the hundreds, if not thousands, of rounded-corners fans, and possibly lose customers.
