Mousing Around The Keyboard

By Joey Cooper

Users everywhere can cancel the hockey party. To the delight of millions of Mac users, during the Keynote address Steve Jobs introduced a new optical mouse and a very-sleek new full-size "pro" keyboard, both of which are housed in stunning, crystal-clear enclosures and will come standard with all of Apple's new desktop computers. Some people felt the former round, "hockey puck," mouse just wasn't large enough. Some complained about the keyboard's size, as well.

Apple says the optical mouse provides precise positioning without a mouse pad on almost any surface. It also features an ergonomic, full surface button and comfortable elliptical shape.

The elegant new pro keyboard offers full-size function and navigation keys. It also has volume control and disc eject keys, as well as two USB ports. Both the keyboard and the mouse will ship with all Apple's desktop computers.

The Apple Pro Mouse and the Apple Pro Keyboard, which require Mac OS 9, are compatible with all USB-enabled Macintosh computers and will be available separate from computers on the Apple Store for $59 beginning in September, according to Apple.

To the delight of all in attendees of the Keynote address, Apple gave away one Pro Mouse to each person. I guess they want to get the word out. Must be quite a product...

-Joey Cooper also still loves his hockey-puck iMac mouse.
