No, I haven't been on vacation since EXPO, nor have I been hiding
from reality trying to recover for it's havoc & chaos. I have
been busy doing reviews for some of the software I received because
of my presence at EXPO as the MacMilitia representative. The software
titles I have been working on are almost all for younger children
& I have recruited the assistance and opinions of my son in the
reviewing and review writing of these titles. Ever have a three year
old help evaluate some software - it takes a lot longer, a
lot! Anyway, keep you eyes open for some "CAP & DAD"
software reviews - coming soon to a review site near you (actually
very near - http://old.macmilitia.com/reviews/). Pangea Software -- link Pangea released version 1.3 of Nanosaur as "shareware". Yes, it was recently a freeware/donationware program, but when they upgraded the software to 1.2(due to a conflict that caused computers that had QuickTime 4.1 to crash) the server they use was overloaded with downloads - well exceeding the limits of their contract with them. This caused Pangea Software to be hit with a $2,000.00+ bill in excess of their regular bill. As a relatively small company, this is a big financial OUCH! So Nanosaur 1.3 upgrade and/or entire program is now a $15.00 shareware that offers compatibility with QuickTime 4.1. Besides the Nanosaur compatibility upgrade, Pangea Software has also released Mighty Mike. Mighty Mike is also a $15.00 shareware title & for Pangea fans, you'd know it better as the 1995 MacSoft game called Power Pete. The Mighty Mike version is an update/upgrade that includes the use of Input Sprockets for better game play. While I am told it is basically the same game with the same levels, I did download a demo copy and hope to have a review of it shortly (about a week). Also of note; in my conversation with Mr. Greenstone, he remains very hopeful that the next new PangeaSoft title will still be released around the end of this year as well as another update/upgrade to another old favorite (Which one? I'm not telling; but, I can't wait.)
MS cancels consumer version of Windoze 2000 less than a month before it is due. -- link And besides canceling the consumer version of Windoze 2000, there have other problems with the product they've selected to release. Yes, it has been reported (wish I'd annotated where I saw it) that Anti-Virus software makers have already found a virus that targets their upcoming new release - a month before it is scheduled to be released. Now that is truly a reason to be proud and happy to be using the MacOS.
Apple Wins Imatec ColorSync Suit -- link "We are pleased that the Judge threw out this frivolous lawsuit,'' said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Our customers can now lay to rest any concerns raised by Imatec's lawsuit.'' I especially like the reports about the Imatec executive selling the majority of his stock in Imatec months ago. They insinuate this executive knew the lawsuit would fail and sold out.
Mexican investor buys CompUSA for $797.7 Million -- link This is certainly cause for concern. While CompUSA has been far from a great place to buy Apple and/or Apple related products - I sincerely worry about such a drastic change during a time CompUSA seemed to be almost trying to improve the Apple experiences of their customers at their stores. In any case - I shall certainly try to keep an eye on this situation.
Have you been to Pure-Mac lately? -- link I remember a time when software updates weren't so abundant - they already have over 40 listed for this week alone. I realize they don't list everything there - but they certainly do an excellent job of trying. It is certainly a site worth visiting at least once a week & an occasional "Thank You" message to them probably won't hurt either. [Another job I'm glad I don't have is keeping track of all the "new" Mac sites.]
MacAddict.com's redesign -- link My opinion, in a word - "Yuck". Nice "ticker", but otherwise difficult and time consuming to navigate & there are some areas I still haven't found (Art Gallery, Seti@Home page, etc...). I hope they redesign it again, and soon!
So much Mac news, so much computer related news, so many changes, so many new Mac sites; it is certainly looking good for Mac users & Apple stock holders. I am certainly glad you've found us and hope you return often. Sincerely-
